The Town of Bechyně

Bechyně is located near Týn nad Vltavou. On the way, stop at the Židova Stream, which flows into the Lužnice River.

Bechyně is a spa town with a château, a characteristic bridge and local ceramics production. The preserved historical center of the town is a valuable heritage zone, one of the most beautiful in the country.

Bechyně Château

The château rises above the Lužnice River, offering beautiful views. The scenery is also stunning on walks along the river. The original castle from 1268 was rebuilt at the end of the 15th century and the current appearance is the result of the work of Petr Vok of Rosenberg. During the summer season, the château and gardens are open to the public and cultural events are held at the site.

Duha (Rainbow) Bridge

The Bechyně bridge known as the Bechyně Rainbow. Completed on October 28, 1928, it was the highest reinforced concrete arch in the Czechoslovak Republic at the time. The height above the Lužnice River is 50 meters, the span of the arch is 90 meters and the length is 203.38 meters. As a railway line runs across the bridge, both cars and trains travel over it.

Historical railway

The Bechyně – Tábor route offers a historic railway, which was built in 1903 as the first electrified railway in Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the completion of the bridge in 1928, the line was extended into town. Rides in a train called Elinka are offered on the track.
