Temelín Nuclear Power Plant
The Temelín Nuclear Power Plant is located on the route from Týn nad Vltavou to České Budějovice.
On the right side you will find a parking lot for cars, but you can also arrive by bike upstream of the Vltava River through Hněvkovice.
The priority of the local power plant characterized by four cooling towers is the production of energy. You can learn exactly how energy is produced in the local visitor center in Vysoký Hrádek Château. Here you will find fission simulation, the layout of the reactors, power plant operation, a projection hall, and a view into the guarded area.
In addition to the visitor center, you will also find a large park in the vicinity of Temelín, with a unique butterfly meadow right next door. The park is an ideal place for walks. It includes a bird trail, as this area is a nesting place for dozens of bird species. There is also a pond in the middle of the park. Bees in the area surrounding Temelín area create honey of a local character.
The nuclear power plant also allows access to the guarded area. However, these visits take place under a special regime on selected days – for example, in the summer during an open house or in the winter during Advent tours. It is necessary to register for these tours and meet the required criteria.
